“It is not freedom from conditions, but it is freedom to take a stand toward the conditions.”
— Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search For Meaning
In a Nutshell
Mental well-being is not never experiencing negative emotions. Mental well-being is experiencing those negative emotions from time-to-time and being able to still function in daily life.
This week we discuss general feelings and influencers of depression that the majority of individuals will experience at some point in their life. This is by no means a deep dive into major depressive disorder or is representative of what individuals experiencing clinically diagnosable depression may be going through.
We will discuss depression broadly and how perfection and control can play a role in our periods of sadness.
NOTE: I use the word control to refer to what we as individuals have control over. In my actual work with clients I use control and responsibility interchangeably. Just a note in case you resonate more with responsibility than control.
